Church multiplication is what drives Rev. Salomon Orellana, Pastor of Iglesia Bautista El Buen Pastor of Hempstead, Long Island, NY. On Monday nights, he teaches an eager group, more than 20 in number, about ministry and church planting. At a recent service, 21 students completed three months of study on church planting and received their certificates.

Rev. Orellana uses a combination of Basic Church Planting, material developed by the North American Mission Board, and his own experience in a lifetime of ministry for his curriculum. The topic for the final class included his insights into the more practical aspects of church planting, like finding a location, balancing ministry and family, and how to handle criticism.

At the conclusion of the class, the graduates received certificates on Basic Church Planting. I had the pleasure of representing MNYBA. Steve Allen, lead church planting catalyst for the North American Mission Board, also congratulated the class.

El Buen Pastor is our Hispanic Church Multiplication Center on Long Island. In three years, they have successfully planted three churches and replanted another. Another church planting couple is set to begin a church in 2014.

It is a real blessing to see what God is doing through this church. It is even more remarkable to know that this church does not own its own building! They are looking into purchasing an empty church building in Hempstead. Pray for this possibility–it could result in even more trained leaders and new churches.
